meet the maker
Welcome! My name is Catherine and I am based out of my home studio in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
Here's a little bit about me, my business, and its roots.

My connection to observing the world, appreciating its intricate details, and creating with intention can be traced back to my childhood. Creating art, collecting rocks along the roadside, and feeling the earth beneath my bare feet is where my creativity and love for nature emerged. I was that kid who would play in muddy puddles and forage in the bushes for whatever trinkets I could find.
I had the privilege of growing up with parents who were just as curious about the world as I was. My childhood memories are abundant in exploring new places and enjoying the outdoors. Our home was filled with houseplants, and our backyard a generous garden. Inevitably, these traits followed me into adulthood; I feel most at home when playing with mud, recharging in nature, and embracing my creativity.

I created Planthead Pots in 2021. The idea came to me when I recognized that I could combine my love for nature and art. I source granite clay pots and hand-paint each vessel with original art. Over the years, I've explored countless designs, created custom pieces for individuals and businesses, and shared my work at local markets and community spaces. Hand-painted pots remain at the heart of my work, continuing the stories, details, and connection that first inspired Planthead.
In 2024, curiosity led me to the pottery wheel. I was drawn to the tactile nature of clay and the magic of creating functional pieces from the ground up. In my quaint home studio, working at the wheel has added a new dimension to my practice - bringing a deeper connection to process and form. Each ceramic piece is shaped slowly and intentionally, with human hands.
Thank you for supporting slow, handmade work, the stories behind the artist, and the things they give life to.
